After posting about Meredith and Rhodes gettin' hitched I kept thinking about my own wedding and how much fun we had, not only on that special day but all the preparations leading up to it...
It was set at a lodge, on the McKenzie River in Oregon, two and a half years ago. Along with the help of some uber-talented friends, Ivy Arp and Cory Lewis... not to mention all my best gal pals and my fabulous mom and mother-in-love... that pitched in to help pull off a full wedding weekend that was almost completely DIY. {meaning the cake was the only thing purchased from a vendor} Here are some of my favorite details...
I definitely have to start with miss Ivy who took the most amazing pictures to document all of the details, without her I would have nothing to show you, and I'm eternally grateful to her. {check out all of her pics here} She is also a super talented illustrator who drew custom pictures for the invitation and coloring book that I made for the event. She even made my nephew a birthday crown for the rehearsal dinner! I love Ivy and all her self-proclaimed oddness, she's one of the most talented people I have the pleasure of calling a friend. The flowers were purchased at the Eugene Saturday market and bouquets were arranged by miss Cory... another naturally talented lady. She also made custom signs that were scattered about the forest, leading the way to the ceremony and a big one we hung on the lodge that read "love out loud". {it hangs in my living room now... I adore it!}
Cory, one of my best friends Meredith, and I spent hours making paper flower bouquets that we used for the rehearsal... these came out so fabulous, I probably could have used them for the wedding. I made welcome baskets for the guests staying at the lodge with us, they were filled with NC moonshine {the real stuff, don't ask - don't tell} and playing cards. For guest favors, I spent the summer making jam from berries bought at the Saturday market... canned and decorated with linen, twine and a copper sign that said "enjoy". I made custom jewelry for my attendants and lady folk staying at the lodge. I also made sacks of cake mix with this recipe tied to it and my favorite mango upside down cake on the back and homemade plumeria bath bombs {made by Cory} for my attendant gifts. We did a photo booth that was a vintage strawberry sheet strung between two trees and a polaroid camera... I later put the pics in our guest book. Scott Witter {the husband of one of my best gals, Vanessa} took some portraits after the wedding. They live in LA now, he's going to be big-time soon. I treasure the pics he took for us. I could go on and on... :) I absolutely love details and I love that weddings do not have to be such over-priced events to have meaning... find your creative friends and make your wedding what you want it to be!
