headboard redo...

I finished the first of my summer projects this past week... my Grandmother's headboard.  I originally hoped to sand it down to unfinished wood. But, as soon as I started sanding, I discovered the piece was actually particle board. So, I switched gears and decided to paint it with black chalkboard paint and scribbled this lovely French quote across it...  "chaque jour je t'aime d'avantage, au 'jourdi plus que hier, et bien moins que demain" - Rosemonde Gérard  It says- Each day I love you more, today more than yesterday, and much less than tomorrow.  {Thanks to my good friend, LV, for the quote inspiration.}  I love the black and I think it will look great with some crisp white bedding {that I have yet to find}... now onto the nightstands and dresser, I'm excited to get to work.

confession:  I am a lazy music lover.  lazy.  I can't even remember the last album I actually bought... it was before itunes, that's for sure.  Pandora has become my long lost best friend, the one that always making cool new mixes for you.  I went on a quest for the perfect {of the moment} party station ... and picked this gal, Santigold, to headline.  I love it, the station has just the right amount of familiar without being mainstream and it's all melodically upbeat... updated dancehall, if you will.  It's what will be playing at my casa tomorrow night, hope to see you there!  xo.

breakfast ramblings...

In our household and according to my iphone, breakfast reigns supreme.  Lila usually has about 2 or 3 rounds before we're out the door for that day's adventure. And I've noticed that my grocery list usually revolves around breakfast stuff, light lunches and then whatever is for dinner that night.  {because I'm terrible at meal planning and can seemingly only buy what we'll eat that particular night... a lot more trips to the store, but a lot less wasted food... that's my thought process.  eh. needs improvement.}  Meanwhile, here are some things we made this weekend that didn't involve breakfast... Pasta All'Amatriciana, otherwise known as the perfect man pasta.  We made some improvements, including a little white wine and san marzano tomatoes... even better!  I whipped up some whoopie pies for a Sunday treat.  And yes, I tested both fillings, I went with filling #2.  Fish tacos were perfect for a warm spring night... we made them with corvina, which was a little sweet and pretty tasty. {but damn, I miss some Oregon seafood, cause nothing beats fried halibut!}  And last, but not least, Ryan took his first stab at homemade biscuits... they were awesome.  Did you know you could buy powdered buttermilk?  ingenious.  We packed some up with cheese, for an afternoon picnic and a hike at Umstead Park.

weekend musings...

most importantly, we have a new doll baby in our life...

her name is Angel {courtesy of L}.  and she can swim.... she now goes everywhere with us.

I gave greenheart a little spring makeover, what do you think?

designing things for myself is decidedly the hardest of jobs.  but I'm going with it. 

here is my attempt at a horrific 'before' shot...

yikes.  I succeeded.  it's our bedroom.  this week I bought new bedding, brought it home and decided the bed did not deserve nice sheets until I refinished the furniture.  so, back the bedding went and this weekend I started with what I thought would be the easiest piece, the headboard.  It has such a nice shape but the faux painting and whatnot is just not us... into the shed it went.  5 minutes later, after a bit of sanding, I discovered the headboard was not wood, but particle board.  drat.  so the original idea of having this nice, smooth natural wood headboard was no longer and a paint choice had to be made...

I'm going with this shade of aquamarine, in hopes that it will reminisce this.  we shall see.

The plants were fed this weekend, a task Lila loves to participate in...

it's quite the operation. 

she can do it all herself, you know.  she is almost three after all...

Meanwhile, {some studio snaps c/o my iphone} jewelry was made...

these {in progress} beauties, along with several other pieces will arrive in the box asap!

and a magical shelf was hung in my studio...

magical, because it allowed me to declutter and organize my desk.  There is definitely no better way to start a Monday, than with a fresh, clean workspace.
